Calcium Fluoride (Caf2)

Calcium Fluoride (Caf2) is a highly transparent optical material that is commonly used in applications such as spectroscopy, thermal imaging, and excimer laser optics.

It has a broad transmission range from the ultraviolet to the mid-infrared region and is highly resistant to thermal and mechanical shock. Due to its low refractive index and dispersion, it is also used as a substrate for antireflection coatings. Additionally, it is often used as a window material in vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) and infrared (IR) spectroscopy, as well as in the manufacturing of lenses, prisms, and optical mirrors. Its high resistance to radiation damage also makes it suitable for use in harsh environments such as space applications.
